The United Nations and the international community are working on defining a new agenda, known as the Post-2015 Agenda, which will follow the Millennium Development Goals after 2015 and implement the Rio+20 outcomes.
Local and regional authorities see the Post-2015 Agenda as closely connected with the Habitat III conference, whose aim is to define a new sustainable urbanization agenda.
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network's initiative, “Why the world needs an urban sustainable development goal”, is supported by key partners of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, such as UN-Habitat, Cities Alliance and ICLEI.
The Local and Regional Governments campaign for an Urban SDG is complementary to this initiative.
ALSO ADVOCATING FOR AN URBAN SDG:
UCLG and its members are advocating for Sustainable Development Goals that take local and regional priorities into account, in particular in the light of rapid urbanization faced in many regions of the world. See the Rabat Declaration.
Furthermore, UCLG is facilitating the work of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments, where local and regional government leaders and their partners meet to contribute to the global agenda.
